Mission of Sole Proprietor Vladimir Olifer
To produce the highest quality Gammarus that meets the needs of leading global companies in the pet industry.
Company History
The company was founded by Alexander Ivanovich Olifer. Back in 1986, after graduating from an agricultural institute with a degree in economics, Alexander decided to earn some extra income during his vacation by harvesting Gammarus. At the time, such work was considered unconventional for those engaged in intellectual professions, so he kept his Gammarus venture under wraps.
Possessing physical strength and perseverance from practicing judo, Alexander approached the task with dedication, joined by his friend and teammate from the institute's wrestling team, Yevgeny Leonov. Their sporting determination paid off: the results of their efforts were highly successful. Riding the wave of the emerging cooperative movement in the country, Alexander Olifer founded the company «Rus,» which began regular Gammarus shipments to Germany.
In 1996, Alexander tragically passed away, and his wife, Tatyana Gennadievna Olifer, took over the management of the enterprise.
Current Operations
Today, the company focuses on harvesting, processing, storing, and selling Gammarus. Given the decreasing humidity levels in Western Siberia, this type of business has become highly risky, with production volumes varying greatly from year to year.
At its fishing sites, the company not only harvests Gammarus but also works to preserve and restore the resource base. This includes introducing Gammarus from other lakes, drilling holes in the ice to improve oxygen saturation in the water and prevent winter fish kills, and maintaining the aquatic ecosystem to avoid habitat degradation.
Development and Innovation
The company continues to grow and evolve. Technology has also advanced — no one harvests Gammarus using birch brooms as they did in the past. Instead, specialized nets are used. Rowboats have been replaced by motorized ones, and Gammarus is dried on large, film-covered platforms. The result is tons of golden dried amphipods, one of the most nutritious feeds, which remains in stable demand on international markets.
